In order to become a successful listener, he should avoid the following things:

Avoid talking unnecessarily:

He should avoid the desire of talking unnecessarily. He should make the speaker aware that he is fully absorbed in his talk on anything aimlessly.

Avoid fidgeting:

He should avoid fidgeting. He should not fidget while he is listening to a speaker. Some listeners move their hands, twist their moustaches, shake their hair and touch their cheeks while listening to somebody. Fidgeting disturbs uniformity of attention.

Avoid interruption:

A listener should not criticize the speaker even if he delivers ideas against his taste. His criticism will disturb the unity of ideas.

The process of good listening is a rewarding experience for the person who listens well. It has the following advantages of listening:

3. It indicates by feedback to the speaker that the listener is interested in his talk.
4. It creates a better rapport (coordination) and understanding between a speaker and a listener.
5. It helps a speaker to share his problem with a listener and gets his help to solve it.
6. It helps a listener to get useful information about a certain problem from a speaker and this information becomes very useful in taking the correct decision.
