Privacy policy
This policy explains what Stacklab X Ltd collects when you use this website, why, and what you can do about it. Last updated 7 September 2026.
Who is responsible
Stacklab X Ltd is the data controller for this site.
What we collect
We keep collection deliberately small:
- Server logs, including a truncated IP address, the page requested and your browser family. Used to keep the site running and to block automated abuse.
- Analytics data, only if you allow it. This tells us which articles people read.
- Advertising data, only if you allow it. Used to show relevant ads and measure them.
- Your email address, only if you subscribe to the newsletter.
- A record of your cookie choice, so we can show that consent was given and honour it on later visits.
IP addresses are truncated before storage, so they cannot identify an individual device.
Cookies and consent
Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before any non-essential cookies are set.
No analytics or advertising scripts load until you consent. Refusing is as easy as accepting.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as a refusal of non-essential cookies automatically.
The categories we use are:
- Strictly necessary (always on — the site cannot work without it): Required for the site to function. Cannot be switched off.
- Analytics: Helps us understand which articles are useful.
- Advertising: Used to show relevant ads and measure their performance.
- Preferences: Remembers choices such as your theme.
You can change your choice at any time using the cookie preferences link in the footer.
How long we keep things
- Consent records: 730 days.
- Change logs: 365 days.
- Completed data requests: 1095 days, kept as proof we handled them.
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
Expired records are deleted automatically by a scheduled job.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, object to our using it, or send it elsewhere in a portable format.
To make a request, contact the contact address published on this site. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your request you can complain to your national data protection authority.
Sharing
We do not sell personal data. Data is shared only with the services needed to run the site — hosting, and, where you have consented, analytics and advertising providers.
Changes
When this policy changes materially we increment the consent version, which asks you to make your cookie choice again.
